This summer our focus is going to be on the grace of sanctification.

What is Sanctification?  The Westminster Shorter Catechism #35 answers:  Sanctification is a work of God’s free grace, whereby we are renewed in the whole man after the image of God, and are enabled more and more to die unto sin, and live unto righteousness.”

Our focus on the sanctifying grace of God will be emphasized in two ways.

1)  Sunday Mornings

The course of our Sunday morning preaching will remain in 1st Timothy.  The purpose of 1st Timothy is holiness in the Household of God (3:15).  However, in addition to this, each week we will be using a chapter from Walter Marshall’s book The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification as the introduction to our time of corporate confession of sin.  Also, each week the pastor will be posting a summary of the chapter in preparation for the confession of sin.  The entire book is in PDF format and can be downloaded free from the internet.

I recommend downloading it from

2) Sunday Evenings

The course of our Sunday evening preaching will be Exodus.  Robert Peterson’s book entitled Desert Crossings: Transformed by tribulations will be the basis for the sermon series as we consider how God transforms sinners into saints.

Please plan on being active and engaged in this sanctifying summer.
